DESCRIPTION:We invite you to our one week Zen Retreat with Zen Master Gu Ja (Namhee Chon) in Zen Center Berlin\, Germany. \nIf you would like to join us\, please register via the registration formular on our website which will be online starting in February 2026  https://kwanumzen.de/en/events/ \nCosts: 390€ / 325€ for members of KUSZ / 275€ for Dharma Teachers (also in training) \n  \nThere will be Kong An interviews with Zen Master Gu Ja and a question and answer session. We will practice meditation in sitting\, walking\, chanting\, eating\, and working. \nIf you have any questions please write us to berlin[at]kwanumzen.de \n  \n\n\nZen Master Gu Ja (Namhee Chon) holds a master degree in philosophy and sinology from Freie Universitaet Berlin (Germany) and learnt Yoga and Meditation in India. In 2008 she received Inka (teaching permission) from Zen Master Wu Bong and in 2017 she received dharma transmission from Zen Master Bon Shim. She is the guiding teacher of Zen Center Berlin. \nZen Master Gu Ja met Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1989 in Warsaw\, Poland\, and founded Zen Center Berlin in 1990 together with her husband\, Zen Master Ji Kwang. A short time after that they founded the Kwan Um School of Zen Germany. She lives close to Berlin with her family and works as a scientist for East-Asian studies.  \nZen Master Gu Ja teaches on a regular basis in Zen Center Berlin. \n\n\n  \nThe day after the one week Zen Retreat a transmission Ceremony will take place for Arne Schaefer JDPSN to become Zen Master. SUMMARY:Zen Around the Table (Medicinal Mushrooms on My Plate)
DESCRIPTION:Vegan Cooking Workshop Retreat with Chef Avital Sebagg \nApril 29 to May 3\, 2006 \nLimited places \nA unique retreat for those who love plant-based cuisine\, local ingredients\, and creative cooking with a wide variety of mushrooms. \nThe course focuses not only on recipes\, but on learning how to be efficient\, mindful\, and joyful in a healthy kitchen. \nAvital Sebbag\, a vegan chef and certified practitioner of Chinese Medicine\, will inspire us to cook a stunning variety of nutritious and delicious vegan recipes based in mushrooms. \nThe workshop will take place in our mountain Zen Center\, located in the middle of the pristine wilderness of the Alta Garrotxa Natural Park. Participants will also experience the ancient practice of korean zen of the Kwan Um School of Zen\, we will meditate in the morning and evening\, and there will also be a daily yoga class. \nTeacher: Avital Sebbag\, an anthropological food researcher and accomplished vegan chef\, known for her book “Five Seasons in the Kitchen –Zen Inspired Vegan Cooking“\, has been practicing Korean Zen for two decades\, and today \, teaches and manages the Hasharon Zen Center in Israel. Avital has integrated her wide worlds of culinary content with Zen teaching\, and conducts cooking and enrichment workshops in the kitchens of temples\, Zen centers and various bodies that invite her knowledge. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in clinical nutrition from Arizona State University. Her meditation practice started when she was seventeen years old. She traveled to India in the early 1980s\, where she studied Zen and Buddhism. In 1986\, she moved to Berlin Germany\, living there for 27 years. Together with a core group of Zen students she built the Berlin Zen Center. She was the abbess of the Berlin Zen Center for 11 years. She met Zen Master Seung Sahn in the early 1990s and has been a member of the Kwan Um School of Zen since then. In 2008\, she received the title Ji Do Poep Sa and Inka — the official seal of approval to teach kong-an — from Zen Master Wu Bong. 26th September 2020 she received Dharma Transmission from Zen Master Bon Shim and got new name – Hyon Ja (Deep Love). She moved to Vienna in 2012. She guides the Kwan Um Zen Centers and groups in Vienna Austria\, Palma de Mallorca Spain\, Budapest and Szeged Hungary and the Vrazne Zen Center in Czech Republic. She is travelling worldwide leading and teaching Zen retreats. \nJan Sendzimir\nJi Do Peop Sa Nim \nJan Sendzimir took Inka from Zen Master Ji Kwang in 2022 and became a Ji Do Poep Sa Nim teaching in the Kwan Um School of Zen across Europe and in the United States. His practice began with Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1974 at the Providence Zen Center. He was one of the first to attend winter Kyol Che in South Korea in 1975. For the last 30 years he has done research and taught ecology and citizen science in universities in Europe\, America\, Asia and Africa. His focus has been to explore ways that Zen practice\, science and policy can support those who engage a changing and unpredictable world. He and his partner\, Zen Master Hyon Ja live and teach in Vienna\, Austria. He is blessed with two daughters\, two grandchildren and two wonderful sons-in-law.
