Help Us Save the Zen Kwan Um Temple

The Kwan Um School of Zen is an international community founded by Zen Master Seung Sahn, bringing together centers all over the world. The main temple in Falenica—Wu Bong Sa—has been a place of practice, meditation, and gathering for over 40 years.

We are unable to carry out this renovation on our own. Every donation—no matter how small—genuinely helps keep this place alive.

What are we raising funds for?

Phase 1 — Urgent repairs:

• Replacing the floor in the cloakroom
• Renovating the bathrooms
• Repairing damaged structural elements
• Securing the rooms for continued use

Future plans:

In subsequent stages, we plan to renovate the stairs, electrical systems, porch, and roof, depending on our financial capacity.

Living Legacy

Our temple is a living legacy of the teachings of Dae Soen Sa Nim (Zen Master Seung Sahn). He brought these direct, humorous, and clear teachings from Korea to the West, instructing us on how to maintain a “Don’t Know” mind in every moment—even during ordinary daily activities.

Dae Soen Sa Nim emphasized that the most important thing is the “Clear Way,” where there is no room for attachment to one’s own opinions or comfort. The renovation we are facing is also a form of practice for us—a test of whether we can work together to care for a space that allows hundreds of people to discover their true nature.

By renovating Wu Bong Sa, we are not just repairing walls; we are sustaining the living transmission of the teachings that Dae Soen Sa Nim left for us all.

How will the funds be used?

Every cent will be dedicated to:

• Securing the building against further deterioration and weather damage
